Gather-Studio, Family Photos for Elizabeth & Jacob

Last year around this time I photographed Elizabeth, Jacob and their daughter Helen at their home. They were about to move into another home and wanted to document their family and the space that had been so special to them. This year, settled into their new space and a year older, they asked me again to document their family through photographs. They also happen to be some of my favorite people and Elizabeth helps me plan & coordinate classes and events at Gather.

Their daughter Helen is beginning to speak in full sentences and loves having tea parties with her animal friends and baby dolls. She is full of joy and really starting to exert her independence.

The Burke’s have a relaxed but intentional design sense. Their house reflects that and is both minimal and full of special but simple details that are meaningful to their family.

I love the way Elizabeth made use of a big vat of indigo dye from one of our shibori classes to update unexpected clothing items. Thank you Burke family for asking me to shoot your family photos.

Bright & Cheery Home of Ulla Johnson in Domino Magazine

Bright Cheery Dining Room Table of Ulla Johnson in Domino Magazine | Gather Goods Co

I first spotted this lovely bright and cheery living room of clothing designer Ulla Johnson on Domino Magazine’s instagram feed. This is the color palette that I am always drawn to across all projects: mostly neutral with hints of green, steel blue, brown leather and pink.

I really like the glass pendant shown here that has a distinct but subtle look that doesn’t overpower the space. I also really like the texture of all the textiles in the space.

Dresser in Domino Magazine | Gather Goods Co

I am particularly obsessed with how people decorate their tiny details on dressers and other surfaces around the house. You can see where I’ve cataloged these on my Pinterest board “decor details“.

Fireplace in Domino Magazine | Gather Goods Co

Mantles too stump me a bit. I don’t like things that look too cluttered or likewise too styled and it’s hard to strike that delicate balance in this spot. My own fireplace mantle is deep and in a corner so it is an awkward spot. I think I’ve finally found a good solution but it took me almost ten years before finding it. Ha!

Kids Bedroom with Cherry Blossoms in Domino Magazine | Gather Goods Co

I love the simplicity of this bedroom. It is sweet and lovely and I’d like to imagine a space like this for my daughter, but the reality is the floor is covered in legos and her walls plastered with drawings and I’m not sure either one of us have inherited the “minimal” gene.

Wall of Bookshelves in Domino Magazine | Gather Goods Co

I’ve been brainstorming bookshelves for our house too for a few years since we are avid readers and have books in all the nooks and crannies of our home. I’ve cataloged a lot of bookcases on Pinterest too here. We’ve finally purchased the lumber so I’m excited to see how they turn out. What solutions have you found for keeping all your books tidy and accessible?

Gather-Studio, Headshot Photography for a Marketing & Communications Manager, Raleigh

Olympia is a freelance marketing and communications manager who works as a consultant for various companies. She is also the founder of Dame Good 365, an online community of women connecting and finding inspiration to do good in their communities. Her passion is in giving back and working at the intersection of digital communications, social media, brand development, and public relations. Obviously, because of her skills and expertise, she knows, like me, the value of having an updated and professional headshot and I was thrilled when she asked me to shoot hers recently.

Gather Goods Studio Headshot

Currently, Olympia is living in a small apartment with her husband and other family members so her home office doesn’t have the professional look she wants to convey in her professional life. I scouted out a few locations before deciding to shoot at NC State’s super sleek new library, the James B. Hunt library located on Centennial Campus. It is a cool spot, not only because the books are pulled from the shelves by robots, but more importantly, because of it’s floor to ceiling windows on every floor, varied backdrops and work surfaces.

Gather Goods Studio Project, Headshot Photography

First impressions count and when you are pitching yourself to potential clients or seeking job opportunities, your photo is one of the first things that person hiring or buying from you sees. Olympia will be using these new headshot photos across her social media platforms and I’m confident they will help her garner more work and continue to position herself as an expert in her field. Thanks Olympia for working with me!
